On Thursday, 22th of October, 12 a.m. at Museo Nazionale Romano della Crypta Balbi, Via delle Botteghe Oscure, 31, 00186 Roma, will be held the press conference for the presentation of the project: “Origins of a new economic union (7th-12th centuries): resources, landscapes and political strategies in a Mediterranean region” winner of the prestigious ERC Advanced grant 2014.

  • Prof. Giovanna Bianchi, UNISI coordinator of the project, professor of Medieval Archaeology at University of Siena, Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage

  • Prof. Angelo Riccaboni, Rettore of the University of Siena

The University of Siena has received a funding of two and a half milion euros for the five years project “Origins of a new economic union (VII-XII centuries): resources, landscapes and political strategies in the Mediterranean sea”

E’ di due milioni e mezzo di euro il finanziamento complessivo ricevuto dall’Universita’ degli Studi di Siena (UNISI) per il progetto quinquennale “Origins of a new economic union (7th-12th centuries): resources, landscapes and political strategies in a Mediterranean region” (nEU-Med). An ambitious project that has won this prestigious funding by the European Union thanks to the great experience and academic competence of professor Richard Hodges, Principal Investigator for this project, of the team from the University of Siena led by professor Giovanna Bianchi, which is composed by archaeologists from the Department of Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage and other researchers from the Department of Biotechnologies, Chimic and Pharmacy and the Department of Earth Sciences.

The theme of this project is the economic history of Mediterranean Sea during the middle ages.
